Your grade will suffer a failure if you are absent, no matter what your reasons are, up to six weeks. - Every week students need to preview the lessons and write exercises. Come prepared and you may expect to be called to share your preparation. - Active participation in class discussion and activities is also required. If your reason for absence is beyond control, please provide a valid proof within two weeks. For a sick leave, the medication proof should be provided in the week when you return to the class. 4. Every writing assignment loses 10% per day when the assignment is due (including weekend), and any assignment which is late on the fourth day will not be accepted and considered zero. Absence cannot be an excuse of not knowing assignment submission or what has been discussed in that class. Ethic Statement on Generative AI Grounded in the principles of transparency and responsibility, this course adopts the policy: “Conditionally open” 1. Students should specify how to use generative AI in course output, and briefly explain how generative AI is used for sentence refinement or structural reference at the end of their assignments. 2. However, in writing a genre which requires a specific communication purpose and structural elements, students are not allowed to use generative AI tools. It is inappropriate to use generative AI in such cases because the content within generative AI may not effectively display the specific structure of the communication purpose, and weaken students’ capability of capturing the writing basics and conventions of short business letters and messages. If usage is discovered without proper disclosure, the instructor has the right to withhold scores. 3. Students enrolled in this course need to agree with the above ethics statement. If students cannot agree with the statement, do not register this course.
