This course, Astrophysical Radiative Processes (ASTR6200), is one of the core courses of the master program at the Institute of Astronomy, NTHU. It basically covers concepts and formalism of radiation transfer and various radiation mechanisms. These are important fundamentals of astronomy and astrophysics.

It basically follows the chapters in the text book listed below. 二、指定用書(Text Books) G. B. Rybicki & A. P. Lightman (1979, 1985) "Radiative Processes in Astrophysics" 三、參考書籍(References) 1. M. S. Longair (2011) High Energy Astrophysics, 3rd edition 2. D. Mihalas (1978) Stellar Atmospheres, 2nd edition 四、教學方式(Teaching Method) This course will go mainly with classroom lectures. Questions and discussions in classroom are very much encouraged. Students should work out all the assignments in the textbook for each chapter. Students will be asked randomly to demonstrate the homework in classroom. 五、教學進度(Syllabus) Ch 1. Fundamentals of Radiative Transfer Ch 2. Polarization of Radiation Fields Ch 3. Radiation from Non-relativistic Charges Ch 4. Radiation from Relativistic Charges Ch 5. Bremsstrahlung Ch 6. Synchrotron Radiation and Curvature Radiation Ch 7. Compton Scattering Ch 8. Plasma Effects The mid-term is scheduled on April 24, 2023, and the final exam on June 12.
