Several questions to ask before this course: 1.What is the ob<x>jective of this course ? a)Crystal structure b)Diffraction theory and techniques 2. What is the atomic arrangement in a crystal? 3. What is the crystal symmetry? 4. What is the basis of diffraction? (a)The Bragg’s law characterizing diffraction in the real space is expressed as 2dsinθ=nλ where n is the order of reflection. When the total path difference 2dsinθ equals to nλ, diffraction occurs. “d” in the Bragg’s law is related to the arrangement of “ob<x>ject”. “λ” is related to the “wave” (b)The diffraction theory in the reciprocal space will be emphasized in this course. Laue condition will be presented in details 5. Brief introduction about diffraction about amorphous materials 6. Some details of practical applications
Course keywords: x-ray intensity, laue condition, shape effect, rea samples, structure determination 一、課程說明(Course Description) The course will provide basic knowledge and applications on X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction. Simulation of diverse materials properties, including SAED patterns, XRD spectrum and structures, were mentioned. Some characterization tools and techniques based on X-ray or diffraction would be discussed. 二、指定用書(Text Books) None 三、References (1)”X-Ray Diffraction", B.E. Warren, 1990 (2)“Elements of X-ray Diffraction”, 3nd Edition, B.D. Cullity, and S.R. Stock, Prentice Hall, NJ 2001. (or newer version) (3) Others as indicated in the notes 四、教學方式(Teaching Method) Powerpoint 五、成績考核(Evaluation) Homework & presentation: 40% Midterm 1: 20%, Midterm 2: 20%, Final exam: 20%.
