It is a one-year course (two semesters in the academic year 2023-2024) introducing basics of groups, rings and fields. In the second semester the main topics will be rings and fields. 2. Textbook: "Introduction to Abstract Algebra" 4th Edition by W. Keith Nicholson, Wiley 2012. 3. Reference: "Abstract Algebra: Theory and Applications" by Thomas W. Judson, an open-source textbook which can be downloaded for free at: http://abstract.ups.edu/download.html 4. Teaching Method: Lectures and exercise sessions. 5. Syllabus: In the second semester we will mainly cover Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the textbook, possibly with a few sections omitted. 6. Evaluation: Homework 30%, Midterm Exam 30%, Final Exam 40%. 期中考時間: 4/17演習課. 期末考時間: 6/17 10:10am-12:00 noon.
