This course describes the concepts of bacterium-host interplay and explores virulence factors that engage colonization and survival of infecting microorganisms and virulence attributes that co-opt the host. The course will also explore experimental approaches for investigating bacterium-host interrelationships including cell lines and animal organisms and their application in studying microbial pathogenicity. The molecular pathogenesis of selected pathogens will also be discussed.

Additionally, it will explore how bacteria can use the host to their advantage. The course will also look at experimental techniques used to study the relationship between bacteria and their hosts, including the use of cell lines and animal models to investigate microbial pathogenicity. Finally, we will discuss the molecular pathogenesis of selected pathogens.
