What processes do we undergo when we comprehend sentences? How do we process the structure of sentences and how do we understand their meaning? Do bilingual individuals process sentences in a manner similar to their monolingual peers? These are just a selection of the inquiries that sentence- processing researchers have dedicated themselves to answering, by conducting a range of sophisticated and innovative experiments. This positions sentence processing as one of the most productive and exciting areas in recent years within experimental language research. This course is designed to offer students the state-of-the-art overview of sentence processing research, while equipping them with practical experiences in conducting online experiments.

How do we process the structure of sentences and how do we understand their meaning? Do we passively wait for the linguistic inputs to arrive, or do we actively make predictions of the upcoming word? Do bilingual individuals process sentences in a manner similar to their monolingual peers? These are just a selection of the inquiries that sentence-processing researchers have dedicated themselves to answering, by conducting a range of sophisticated and innovative experiments. This positions sentence processing as one of the most productive and exciting areas in recent years within experimental language research. This course is designed to offer students the state-of-the-art overview of sentence processing research, while equipping them with practical experiences in conducting online experiments. To build a strong theoretical foundation, both student presenters and I will facilitate class discussions. Students will take turns summarizing the topics in the assigned readings, and I will supplement the discussions with further information on the subject matter. In the hands-on section of this course, students will collaborate on a collective project. They will gain proficiency in setting up an online experiment, preparing experiment materials, and collecting and analyzing data as a cohesive class effort. ● 指定用書(Text Books) Warren, P. (2013).
