Brief

This course is designed to address ethical and legal considerations for professional counseling, clinical and psychology. It also addresses litigation and legal regulation in regard to professional practice. The course will introduce students to ethical standards of professional organizations and credentialing bodies (e.g., American Psychology Association and American Counseling Association). We will explore the range of ethical issues that professionals may encounter within the field of counseling and clinical psychology as well. Through lecture, discussion, reading, and role-playing, students will explore such issues as ethical codes and ethical decision-making, boundaries of competence, confidentiality, multiple relationships, insurance/third party payments, advertising, assessment, therapy and research. Besides, students will develop their own ethical decision-making algorithm (EDMA) that they will be expected to use and apply throughout their training and careers
