Brief

1. 目標: This course is a basic introduction to literature and literary criticism. It includes examples of various periods and genres of literary works and literary criticism and theory. Its goal is to offer students the opportunity to study literary texts from a variety of periods, genres, and points of view as well as major critical approaches. 2. 內容: The lectures comprise both an introduction to the close reading of literature as well as some critical resources for English-major students. It provides students a variety of ways to interpret a piece of literature, ranging from historical/biographical and moral/philosophical approaches through the formalist, the psychological, the mythic and archetypal, and into such contemporary perspectives as feminist criticism and cultural studies.
