ENG I工一 904 M6M7M8
This course provides an introduction to Factory Physics: a systematic discussion of the underlying behavior of manufacturing systems with three major parts. The first part discusses The Lessons of History including Manufacturing in America, Inventory Control: From EOQ to ROP, The MRP Crusade, The JIT Revolution, and What Went Wrong. The second part illustrates Factory Physics including A Science of Manufacturing, Basic Factory Dynamics, Variability Basics, The Corrupting Influence of Variability, Push and Pull Production Systems, The Human Element in Operations Management, and Total Quality Manufacturing. The third part describes Principles in Practice including A Pull Planning structure, Shop Floor Control, Production Scheduling, Aggregate and Workforce Planning, Supply Chain Management, and Capacity Management. Many of these topics are individual courses by themselves, and therefore this course can be treated as an integration of several courses.

Many of these topics are individual courses by themselves, and therefore this course can be treated as an integration of several courses in Production and Operations Management (POM) area. Students are required to make a group presentation (including ppt and video) for a survey of state-of-the art progress of POM in terms of hardware, software, system, and idea. 二、指定用書 (Textbooks) Factory Physics, 3rd edition, Wallace J. Hopp and Mark L. Spearman, Waveland Press, 2008 三、參考書籍 (References) 四、教學方式 (Teaching Method) Lecture, Question and Answer, Discussion, Presentation 五、教學進度 (Syllabus) * Course Introduction * Manufacturing in America * Inventory Control: From EOQ to ROP * The MRP Crusade * The JIT Revolution * What Went Wrong * A Science of Manufacturing * Basic Factory Dynamics * Variability Basics * The Corrupting Influence of Variability * Push and Pull Production Systems * A Pull Planning structure * Video Presentation 六、成績考核 (Evaluation) * Class Participation and Homework 30% * Video Presentation 20% * Final 50%
