This course is the second part of a one-year course that is designed to improve students’ English academic writing ability. Emphasis will be placed on writing research papers. Students in this course will explore the textual, rhetorical, and discursive conventions common in academic writing, have hands-on practice of conducting a field research, learn to critically evaluate reading sources, and write source-ba<x>sed research papers. Through process writing, students will be guided to do pre-writing activities, topic development, text analysis, critical thinking, library research, peer review, and revision. Although grammar will be addressed when needed, the focus of this course will be ba<x>sed on developing the content (ideas, structure, and logic) of writing rather than mechanics.
