This course touches on two selected works, the first being The Alchemist, centering on a young shepherd’s journey of treasure hunting. His quest allows him to encounter various symbolic characters that reveal the insights of his life potentials. The other being The New Drama: Father and Son, a popular crime fiction drama produced by BBC Drama Team. Students can benefit from the distinctive observation and witty solutions in a murder case; thus, build their critical thinking and problem- solving capabilities. Topical themes range from symbols, character, setting, plot, culture, politics, omens, and relationships of the above-mentioned fictions will be discussed in class.
