The goals of the course are to introduce students to the major concepts, theories, and research findings of educational psychology and allow them to apply them to their future teaching, as well as to their own learning. The course will be divided into four parts. First we will consider some varieties of psychology and, more briefly philosophy, that have implications for education. We then look at the way the individual learner develops – physically, mentally, and socially. Part 3 deals with the needs of learners, including learners with special needs, and how the needs can be satisfied, from a variety of psychological perspectives. Motivation will be an important topic here. The final part of the class is more directly about the classroom.
