Course keywords: physics 一、課程說明(Course Description) "Introduction to Relativity (I)(II)" is a two-semester course on General Relativity. First Semester: Basic Ideas of General Relativity Although the course begins with a review on Special Relativity, it adopts the geometric approach for preparation for General Relativity. It assumes that you are familiar with: (1) Special Relativity, especially in the four-dimensional form. (2) Electromagnetism in the four-dimensional form. (3) Electromagnetism in Gaussian units. If you are not familiar with the above subjects, you need to review or study them before the class begins in September, in order to catch up with the lectures. The suggested references are: (1) M. A. Heald & J. B. Marion: Classical Electromagnetic Radiation (3rd ed.), Chapter 14. (2) J. D. Jackson: Classical Electrodynamics, Chapters 11, 12. Second Semester: Applications of General Relativity, including (1) gravitation waves, (2) spherical stars and black hoes, (3) cosmology. Students are expected to be familiar with (1) Gauge transformation in electromagnetism (2) Electromagnetic radiation (dipole, quadruple radiation) (3) Solution of Kepler motion If you are not familiar with the above subjects, you need to review or study them before the class begins in September, in order to catch up with the lectures. The suggested references are: (1) M. A. Heald & J. B. Marion: Classical Electromagnetic Radiation (3rd ed.), Chapters 4, 5, 9. (2) J. D. Jackson: Classical Electrodynamics, Chapters 6, 7, 9. 二、指定用書(Text Books) B. F. Schutz, "A First Course in General Relativity" (2nd ed., Cambridge University Press) 三、參考書籍(References) 1. A.
