Brief

Linguistics concerns the scientific study of natural languages. This course aims to familiarize students with basic concepts in linguistics, including structures and functions of human languages. In additional to traditional subfields such as morphology, syntax, phonology, and semantics, interdisciplinary issues like the interaction of language and culture and application of linguistics as in language teaching will be emphasized.

Wonders of the English Language. Taipei: Crane Publishing. Teaching Method: Basically, the chapters in the textbook are followed, with supplementary materials provided if necessary. Exercises will be assigned regularly at the end of each chapter. Written exams will be held twice within the semester.
